I really hate painting cavalry. I mean I really really hate painting cavalry. When it comes to cavalry I really really really hate painting Hussars. It is like slamming your fingers in a door – feels really great when you stop.
This week’s completed unit is the 10th Light Dragoons (Hussars), 1808. I chose this regiment because that is what is illustrated in my copy of the wonderful Military Dress of the Peninsular War. Miniatures are Elite sourced from Nathan at Elite Miniatures Australia. I will point out that he does not just stock Elite – he has a great range from a variety of top line manufacturers.
As far as this unit goes they look a damn sight better from three feet away than they do in close up pictures, but I am reasonably happy with them despite the fact that they drove me batty.
They look really good. Hehe why do hate painting cavalry so much?

I am not sure. I just find it a real chore and I don’t get much enjoyment out of it. I have a unit of French Hussars that I started in 1985-ish – still staring at me. I am afraid to finish them. Every year or so I pick up a paint brush and dab a few colours here and there.

I’ve never painted cavalry but I can imagine the horses wouldn’t be much fun. One thing I don’t like painting is shoes/boots/feet. Boring! Haha

They look great, Brian. You need a bit of therapy to overcome your Cavalryphobia, I think, as the results are excellent!

Great stuff Brian. I feel your pain with painting hussars…I have one regiment of them and two of light dragoons in transit now and I am not sure if I am looking forward to the task of painting them!

Hi Brian. Don’t see what the problem is…they look great to me. I must admit that the detail required at 28mm is considerably more than I have to use for 20mm, but I find that if the horse moulding is good then this makes the painting quite painless if you are good at washes & drybrushig (& I know you are!)
